Depend on annuals for a riot of color | Garden column

It is nice to have dependable perennials that come up every year, But I need annuals. Annuals are the brightest, most colorful, faithfully blooming plants there are. They live from frost to frost and usually keep blooming all of the time. I love perennials and shrubs, but for a riot of color all summer and into fall I depend on my annuals.
