Indian community says 'no' to leggings with images of Hindu deities

JERSEY CITY — People in Jersey City’s “Little India” neighborhood were glad that a South Jersey online clothing company is pulling designers leggings from its website that feature images of the Hindu gods Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha after pressure from a national Hindu organization.

“It’s very offensive,” Raj Patel, 35, a Jersey City resident from India, said of a pair of leggings by Zayze Activewear, of Ventnor City. “A God is very respected. Maybe on the back or the top, but not the lower body. That is disrespectful for that God.”
