Prosecutor's office spent $38K on DNA software it never used, feds say

ELIZABETH — A federal audit found the Union County Prosecutor’s Office used grant monies to make $48,087 in unnecessary purchases, but Union County authorities say a federal agency recommended nearly all of that spending.

Overall, the prosecutor’s office received two grants totalling $1.4 million, and except for a small portion, had carefully managed the funds, according to the audit released Tuesday by the Inspector General Office in the U.S. Department of Justice.
