Charges pending after students discuss harming classmates, staff

PITMAN — Borough police have increased their presence in and around Pitman Middle School this week following a social media exchange in which six students talked about possibly harming classmates and faculty, police said.

School officials contacted the police department Tuesday to report the social media activity, which took place last weekend.

A student reported the matter to school officials, who in turn contacted authorities, Pitman Police Chief Dan McAteer explained.

“Students and faculty were never in danger,” McAteer said. “School officials and police acted quickly.”

The students allegedly involved and their parents are cooperating with the investigation, he said.
