Caught by cellphone records, N.J. man admits $1.3K bank robbery

NEWARK — Federal prosecutors say a Passaic County man faces up to 20 years in prison after admitting Thursday to robbing a Hawthorne bank two winters ago.

Robert Somers, 45, of Little Falls, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton to one count of bank robbery in connection with the Feb. 17, 2016 theft of $1,360 from TD Bank in Hawthorne, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Investigators at the time said Somers entered the bank and gave the teller a note demanding money, before fleeing in a black Mitsubishi with Pennsylvania plates.
