Man sent to prison for strangling pregnant girlfriend

FREEHOLD — A Freehold man was sentenced to 28 years in prison Friday for strangling his pregnant girlfriend.

Sender Neftali Villatoro-Reyes, 27, will have to serve more than 24 years of his term behind bars before becoming eligible for parole, according to the sentence imposed by Superior Court Judge Richard English, said Charlie Webster, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Villatoro-Reyes pleaded guilty in January to aggravated manslaughter in the death his girlfriend, Lucenay Fermin Gallegos, who was five months pregnant at the time, on May 16, 2014.
