Jersey Shore town to reportedly lay off firefighters, who might sue

DEAL — A small Jersey Shore town’s three soon-to-be laid off firefighters are considering suing the borough, according to a report.

While officials in Deal say the decision to cut the paid firefighters from the town’s payroll is “strictly economics,” the firefighters’ attorney says it stems from an overtime dispute, APP.com.

The paid firefighters and the borough recently settled a claim, in which the men claimed they weren’t paid for putting in extra hours. Their lawyer said a retaliation suit is being considered, according to APP.com.
