Dad gets 10 years for disappearing with sons, causing national search

NEWTON — Kristopher Dohm was sentenced Friday to 10 years in state prison for disappearing with his two young sons for more than a month in 2015, prompting a massive nationwide search.

Superior Court Judge William McGovern imposed the maximum sentence for Dohm, who pleaded guilty March 8 to two counts of second-degree interference of custody.

“It was a very selfish, thoughtless action, or series of actions, that he set in motion,” McGovern said.

Dohm, 38, who had been living in Hopatcong, apologized in court for his actions.

“I feel terribly for what I have done and I regret my actions,” Dohm said.
