N.J. town reportedly may charge to park near Appalachian Trail boardwalk

VERNON — Sussex County’s largest municipality is considering a permit parking fees near a popular access point to the Appalachian Trail, the New Jersey Herald reports.

Residents would pay $1 for daily parking and non-residents would pay $5 under the proposal, subject to township council approval, the report said.

Under the plan, limited trail parking would be available on local roads near Route 517, where homeowners have complained about an influx of vehicles, the Herald reported.

On-street trail parking for free would continue on Route 517, which is an access point for an elevated boardwalk that draws scores of visitors year-round.
