Ex-Newton cop accused in sex assault of boy getting out of jail

NEWTON — A Superior Court judge has approved the release on bail of a former Newton police officer charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy in a Burger King bathroom four months ago.

Jason R. Miller, 40, of Hampton, was expected to be freed from the Morris County jail by Tuesday night, his attorney told NJ Advance Media.

Miller, jailed since his arrest Dec. 15, was brought to Newton for a 1:30 p.m. bail source hearing before Judge William McGovern.

Prosecutors had sought the hearing and challenged his release after Miller’s family secured enough funds to post his $150,000 bail.
