Mine Hill man admits lying about Vietnam War service, report says

MORRISTOWN — A Mine Hill man said he lied about his service during the Vietnam War in order to receive gifts, including a $31,919 deck built onto his home, the Daily Record reported Monday.

Robert Guidi, 67, pleaded guilty to theft by deception and to violating the Stolen Valor Act so he could obtain the deck and other gifts and benefits, including a hunting bow and a hunting trip to Tennessee. Prosecutors have asked that Guidi receive three years in prison, pay a fine and be ordered to make restitution for the deck when he’s sentenced in May.
