Man who beat college student to death with crowbar sentenced to life in prison

NEW BRUNSWICK — A city man who beat a college student with a crowbar three years ago and left him to die behind a pile of February snow was given a prison term Monday afternoon that will keep him locked up until at least 2056.

Timothy Puskas, 41, was sentenced by Judge Dennis Nieves to 40 years in prison for the murder of 22-year-old New Jersey native William McCaw.

“I have given a life sentence and you probably deserve a life sentence because that poor kid, Mr. McCaw, was brutally beaten on a cold night,” Nieves said.
