Loaded gun, 5,000 bags of heroin recovered next to Jersey City school

JERSEY CITY — Police recovered a loaded handgun, more than 5,000 bags of heroin, and thousands of dollars in cash for an apartment across the street from a public school on Friday night, officials said.

Authorities investigating drug sales on Martin Luther King Drive near Dwight Street arrested 32-year-old Troy Laforte, of Van Wagen Street. Laforte was carrying 1,000 glassine bags of heroin and 64 vials of cocaine, city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.

During a follow up investigation, police prepared a search warrant for an apartment on Dwight Street, directly across the Street from School 15, she said.
