Rescue imminent as deer remains stuck in frozen N.J. pond

ROXBURY – A deer remains stuck Sunday morning in a frozen pond near a housing development as officials devise a plan to rescue it. 

A resident, Gary Stevens, said the deer has been stuck in the pond for about 20 hours.

“Every time he got up he just went down,” Stevens said.

Stevens is among the handful of residents who’ve gathered to watch the deer, which is stuck in a frozen pond about 60 yards from shore. There are also two Roxbury police officers present, but no rescue efforts are underway as of 9 a.m.
