Musicians named to national orchestra

OLD TAPPAN/RIVER EDGE — Andrew Hughes of Old Tappan, a student at Northern Valley Regional High School, and Alyssa Kim of River Edge, a student at River Dell High School, have been named to the 2017 National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America.

Hughes, who plays the viola, and Kim, a violinist, are among nine student musicians from New Jersey and 38 musicians ages 16 to 19 nationwide chosen for the 2017 orchestra by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute for being “among the finest players in the country” after advancing through a competitive audition process.
