74-year-old woman, dog saved from Middlesex house fire

MIDDLESEX BOROUGH — Firefighters saved a 74-year-old woman, who remains in critical conditions, and her dog from a house fire on Sunday.

At around 7:45 a.m., police officers arrived and entered the home on Main Street and tried to reach the woman on the second floor, but “were pushed back by heavy smoke,” according to a statement from the Middlesex Borough Police Department.

The borough’s fire department arrived minutes later and rescued the woman and her dog from the second-floor bathroom, police said.
