Woman killed in early-morning house fire

PEMBERTON TWP. — A one-alarm fire Friday morning claimed the life of a woman in a home in the 400 block of Cornell Avenue, the borough police chief said.

Flames were visible through the roof, neighbors told first responders, Police Chief David Jantas said. The blaze was reported at 5:34 a.m. and firefighters arrived four minutes later. A 71-year-old man police believe is the homeowner answered the door when responders arrived, and was safely escorted from the home without injury, Jantas said.
