Driver charged with killing someone's dog in hit-and-run

Someone’s collie was killed Thursday in a hit-and-run crash in Hackettstown, though town police said they were able to track down the vehicle and charge the driver.

The pet was struck shortly before 4:30 p.m. on West Moore Street and was dead when police arrived, according to a news release from the department.

Witnesses described the light-colored Toyota Tacoma that left the crash scene, and police found a matching vehicle that had evidence of the impact on Rockport Road just outside of town, the release said.
