State PBA urged officers to support cop who slapped man in bunny suit

SPARTA — New Jersey’s largest police union aided a public display of support for the Hopatcong police officer charged with simple assault after slapping a bunny-suited prankster.

The State Policemen’s Benevolent Association sent a message Feb. 28 urging officers to show up Thursday when Hopatcong Police Officer Nicholas Maresca Jr. appeared in municipal court.

About three dozen officers, including most of the Hopatcong police department, filled the left side of Judge John E. Mulhern’s courtroom before 9 a.m. as Maresca appeared for a case management hearing.
