Shore town pays $90K to settle retaliation suit by ex-worker

POINT PLEASANT BEACH – The borough paid $90,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a former borough employee who alleged she was retaliated against after reporting a colleague had falsified water meter readings in 2012.

The lawsuit filed in 2014 by Sandra Petersen, who was the water and sewer billing and account clerk, claims a colleague falsified water meter readings that resulted in residents’ bills being charged incorrectly.

The settlement was first reported by John Paff, an open-government advocate who runs the blog NJ Civil Settlements.
