'Explosive device' discovered in Plumsted mailbox, police say

PLUMSTED — Police asked for information from the public after an “explosive device” was discovered in a mailbox in Plumsted Saturday, the department said in a statement.

Township officers were initially dispatched for a report of a pipe bomb in the mailbox, according to police. Officials with the State Police bomb squad made the device safe and discovered it had partially detonated.

Police could not be reached Saturday night to provide more information, including details about the device or any possible damage. There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
