New span opens to traffic, replaces poster child for bad bridges

DOVER — A bridge on Prospect Street, which was closed and held up by officials as a poster child for renewing the state’s Transportation Trust Fund two-years ago, was replaced Wednesday by a new a new $3.1 million span.

On Jan. 12, 2015, then Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox announced that the Prospect Street Bridge in Dover had been closed to traffic in November because engineers deemed it too feeble to carry the weight of a snow plow.

Department of Transportation officials opened the new span to traffic on Wednesday morning. Construction on the new bridge started in spring 2015.
