The Hackensack City Council proposed a settlement Tuesday night with a former interim city manager in which the city pays no more than $250,000, seeking an end to a lawsuit against the city.
Anthony Rottino, who filed a whistle-blower lawsuit in June 2014, claimed city officials violated state law, condoned “mob-like and thuggish behavior” by the police union and conducted a smear campaign against him.
The proposal needs to be brought before Rottino’s attorneys.
Rottino asserted that city officials spread rumors about him and retaliated against him for opposing the raising of police salaries, among other issues.
