HILLSIDE — More than 700 loaves of challah bread braided, baked and packed by volunteers yesterday at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey will be distributed to families along with other food donations.
The bread was prepared in a Community Challah Bake event coordinated by the Jewish Federation of Greater Metrowest New Jersey, a Jewish community organization.
“Hunger’s a real issue, and it’s in our backyard,” said Maxine Schwartz, a Westfield resident who chairs the federation’s Center for Volunteerism. “This is a real symbol of it, bread being a symbol of food and nourishment.”
