Yankees World Series pitcher, Hillsdale resident passes away at 81

Johnny Kucks — who earned a place in New York Yankees lore with a World Series-clinching pitching performance but wanted to be remembered instead as a devoted suburban family man — died of cancer Thursday at the Villa Marie Claire hospice in Saddle River.

He was 81 and had resided in Hillsdale since 1956, the year of his signature athletic achievement.
