Off-duty firefighter alerts family of house fire in Hillsdale

An off-duty firefighter who just so happened to be driving by alerted residents that their Hillsdale home had caught fire last night, according to authorities.

Hillsdale Fire Chief Jason Durie said at around 5 p.m. on Oct. 19 a North Hudson Regional firefighter, who lives locally, was passing by the Pascack Road home when he saw smoke, stopped his car, ran up to the house, banged on the door and got the residents out.
