Editorial: Special Olympics 2014 USA Games could bring $80M economic benefit to N.J.

The countdown has ticked below nine months and the anticipation continues to build. On the second Saturday in June, an estimated 3,500 athletes along with some 80,000 family, friends, volunteers and coaches will descend on Mercer County for the Special Olympics 2014 USA Games — an event larger than any the county has ever seen.

The College of New Jersey will serve as the main host of the national games and the campus will be transformed into an Olympic village complete with faux boardwalk with games and vendors for athletes and guests. It will be a massive undertaking.
