N.J. man charged with taking girl, 13, from Rhode Island pleads not guilty

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A 27-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to a charge that he took a 13-year-old girl from Rhode Island to New Jersey for sex in a case that prompted an Amber Alert.

Daniel Berger of the Haskell section of Wanaque was indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. The Providence Journal reports he pleaded not guilty today at U.S. District Court in Providence.
