Stun gun convinces 'disturbed' Fairview man to surrender to police

FAIRVIEW — The Bergen County Police SWAT team used its new stun guns for the first time last weekend, the Record reported.

An emotionally disturbed 27-year-old Fairview man who had barricaded himself in a bedroom with a knife surrendered to police after they threatened to tase him.

When officers first tried talking to the man, he said they would have to kill him, County Police Chief Brian Higgins said. Officers picked the bedroom door lock and convinced him to surrender before he could grab the knife, Higgins said.
