Letter: Private sector may have done better for mail service

To the Editor:

In reference to Jim Sherman’s Aug. 7 letter, “Postal cuts cater to greedy businesses,” which decried plans by some in Congress to end door-to-door mail delivery:

As an old-timer who still swears by “snail mail,” I would surely hate to see that come about.

Now, I’m not suggesting that politicians and “greedy businesses” (which presumably would replace some U.S. Postal Service functions) may not be culprits in this matter but, in my view, it may go even deeper than that.
